Vision - Mission - History

Montana Women Vote formed in August of 2000 to increase voter turnout in low-income areas. The group targeted low-income precincts in five communities, on the seven Indian reservations, and six university campuses. The goal was to increase the voter turnout in the 10 targeted precincts by 5 percent.

MWV efforts along with those of other voter mobilization groups contributed to a 9-15 percent increase in voter turnout in the targeted precincts.

Montana Women Vote is committed to reach low-income women across the state. In a democracy citizens can have power, but they only have power if they participate.

When low-income women don't vote, not only are they left out of the democratic process as individuals, but the issues critical to their lives are not represented in public policy decisions.

While increasing voter turnout is an important goal, MWV is also committed to educating women on how connections between issues and how policy impacts women's daily lives. Montana Women Vote works year-round on advocacy and public policy issues.
