JOB TITLE: Montana Women Vote Community Organizer

HOURS: 40 hours/week

SALARY: $45,000 – $50,000

ORGANIZATION AND POSITION BACKGROUND:

Montana Women Vote (MWV) works statewide to engage low-income women and families, LGBTQ folks, Two-Spirit and Non-binary folks, Black, Indigenous and People of Color, and their allies in the democratic process as informed voters, policy advocates, and community leaders. We work on issues including economic justice, health care reform, voting rights, criminal legal reform, and reproductive justice. We believe that civic action, policy change, and leadership development can together shift the balance of power and improve the lives of low-income women and families in Montana.

MWV is seeking a full-time Community Organizer to work alongside the program team to create, manage, and implement program and organizational work. Salary is commensurate with experience, ranging from $45,000 to $50,000.  MWV provides a benefits package including generous paid leave and health insurance. The position is based in Missoula, Helena, or Great Falls (preferred).

POSITION REPORTS TO: Program Director

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In collaboration with the program team, coordinate and manage a statewide voter registration, education, and mobilization campaign during election years.
  • In collaboration with the program team, coordinate the annual Policy Leadership Institute (PLI), MWV’s statewide conference.
  • During legislative sessions and in the interim, work with the program team to engage our members and develop leaders in taking legislative action.
    • This may include, but is not limited to: collecting personal stories, writing action alerts and newsletters, running phone banks, helping members draft testimony, soliciting and editing letters to the editor, and helping to coordinate lobby days.
  • Recruit, manage, and train volunteers and community leaders.
  • Register voters at events, stores, schools, and other locations, and help the program team support statewide voter registration groups.
  • Participate in general administrative and quality control support.
  • Work alongside staff as a participating member of the Montana Women Vote team.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • 1 to 3 years of community organizing experience (preferred).
    • Recruiting, managing, and retaining volunteers and leaders.
  • Self-directed – comfortable setting own work plan and achieving goals.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently.
  • Social media and basic computer skills, VAN / EveryAction experience preferred.
  • Comfortable having one-on-one conversations in a variety of settings.
  • Available to work some nights and weekends and travel as needed.
